Tonight I needed to find something stored under my sewing table. I crawled under the table and sat there while I was searching.
The table has a frosted glass panel in the center. I looked up at the now ethereal light from my lamp shining through. Something about the papers sitting on the top of the frosty glass combined with the light really struck me.
And it turns out that sitting underneath a table makes me feel like a kid playing hide and seek. Remember that nervous anticipation of being found? Hearing the footsteps coming close by and trying to hold your breathe and be as still as a kid can possibly be...

Eldorado Grill, Madison WI

Mmmmm margaritas! I'm a little surprised that it's taken me this long to tell you about the Eldorado. It was my first favorite restaurant in Madison. And not only because they have fantastic margaritas (made with fresh squeezed lime juice!). The food is great and the place is always cozy and inviting. Though that can also mean crowded, so make sure to call for a reservation.

Pictured above are the Southwestern fishcakes. Delicious. And I would recommend anything with the achiote pork. Like the burrito. Or the chalupa! The enchiladas with mole sauce are awesome too. Can you tell I eat here a lot?
A word of warning, you won't be able to stop eating the homemade salsa with chips. This is a problem if maybe you are planning on snuggling up to someone after dinner. I'm not sure that there is enough minty gum in the world to cover up the onions and garlic in that salsa.

Annie Hagar

Paintings by Chicago based artist Annie Hagar
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
In 2004, I received my BFA in Painting & Drawing at the University of Michigan School of Art & Design and plan to enter graduate school for painting as soon as my wallet allows. Originally focused on realistic representations, mostly of the human form, my painting and drawing has taken on a much more intuitive quality. In addition, I am a freelance portrait and graphic artist; the latter has increasingly influenced my painting.

West Side Bookshop, Ann Arbor MI

Okay, we all know how much I loved Ann Arbor. And here's another reason why. There are a LOT of bookstores. I surely could've spent an entire day in the West Side Bookshop. Just walking in to this place makes you feel all literary. Honestly, I don't remember much about the selection of books, I was so wrapped up in the atmosphere. If you're in Ann Arbor, you have to stop in here.

En route

So I forgot my book yesterday. Which meant that I had nothing to do on my bus ride home. How could I possibly survive 15 minutes of doing nothing? Luckily I had my camera in my bag. And I tried my best to ignore the people looking at me wondering what the heck I was taking pictures of.

Oh and another bus related note...a big thank you to the Madison Metro bus driver who didn't hesitate to help push my car out of the snowbank it was stuck in. Much appreciated.

Diana Sudyka

Cedar Waxwings - Original Watercolor
Work by Chicago artist Diana Sudyka
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
My background and training are in fine art; printmaking specifically. Chicago has a really great, strong printmaking community. Currently, I work as an illustrator, creating work for everything from book covers, album artwork, screenprinted rock posters (for bands such as The Decemberists, Feist, Iron and Wine, Andrew Bird, Modest Mouse, and Tortoise), to watercolors for my blog, The Tiny Aviary, that documents my volunteer work for the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History. My favorite mediums are etching and watercolor; two mediums that figure heavily into old natural history illustrations, which I love. Aside from visual art, my passion is the natural world and this increasingly defines the work that I do.
